The 3rd generation maintains its design but features a new chip, 4K Dolby Vision and HDR10+, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, WiFi 6, and 32GB of storage – up from just 8GB previously.
We recently reported on the new Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270, and now an upgraded Xiaomi TV Box S – the 3rd generation – arrives to take on Google's Google TV Streamer.
This box is designed to turn any TV into a Google TV, providing access to the vast catalog of both international and local streaming apps. It connects via HDMI and can be fully controlled with the TV's remote or the included remote.
Upgraded hardware
Xiaomi said that the new model features a 64-bit chip built on a 6nm process, likely the Amlogic S905X5M, offering 25% higher CPU performance and 130% better GPU performance compared to the 2nd Gen. However, it still only has 2GB of RAM.
One major improvement is the storage bump from 8GB to 32GB, allowing for more apps and casual games. Google requires new Google TV devices to have at least 16GB of storage and support AV1 video decoding.

No Ethernet port
Xiaomi promotes the box as supporting HDMI 2.1, but it only delivers HDMI 2.0 bandwidth for 4K 60Hz. It also supports HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
WiFi 6 is supported for the first time, but there is no Ethernet port and the USB port is limited to USB 2.0 speeds. Xiaomi has not specified which version of Android runs Google TV on the box.
The Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen will be available soon, with pricing to be confirmed.
