Streaming service Max will reverse its name change. It will once again be called HBO Max.
The name change from HBO Max to Max was heavily criticized as many associate the HBO brand with top-tier quality.
It happened in May 2023 in the US and then gradually in other regions as a result of the combination of HBO Max with Discovery+ following the merger of the two companies.
Changing its name back to HBO Max
Two years after the name change, Warner Bros Discovery has now decided to return to its roots. The name will change back to HBO Max this summer, the company confirmed.
- "With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognized as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for." said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content.

Same app
The streaming service has previously been called HBO Go and HBO Now. It has been available as, for example, HBO Nordic in specific regions.
HBO Max will be accessible via the same app as today, i.e. the Max app.
Warner Bros Discovery expects HBO Max to reach 150 million subscribers by the end of 2026.
